Championship Predictions
The SoccerWinners computer has given us its first championship estimates for the 2007/2008 season and it looks like good news for Manchester United and bad news for Derby County. Of course these are only preliminary calculations, and they don't include player transfers, so don't take them too seriously.
Manchester United are narrowly tipped to win the Premiership, ahead of Chelsea by only 1 point. In percentage terms ManU are given about 42% and Chelsea 34%, which of course leaves only 24% for the rest. Realistically only Liverpool and Arsenal have any hope of competing with the top two, and even then it will take a large dose of luck. Sadly for Arsenal fans their luck seems to have run out...to Barcelona.
Its no surprise to see Wigan and Fulham near the bottom of the table. They narrowly survived last season and fans can expect something similar in 2008. All three newly promoted teams (Birmingham, Derby and Sunderland) can also expect a tough season, although with good signings there's no reason they couldn't emulate Reading. The computer normally underestimates promoted teams at the start of the season, so expect some adjustments. A slight surprise is that West Ham are not nearer the bottom.
